Things I know

There is no past to regret nor any future to fear.
There is only now.
You can learn from the past, just don't live in it.
You can look forward to the challenges of the future, just don't wait for it.
There is only now.
Live now.

Accredited to Tecumseh, a Shawnee mystic, warrior/military leader. I'm sure, over the span of mankind, many have echoed these sentiments, regardless of the speaker's origins.
The last line is the one I find most profound.

Do not allow others to make your path for you.
It is your road and yours alone.
Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.
...
Know your path at all times.
I have made myself what I am.

Tecumseh
Shawnee, 1768-1813

Don't think about doing something
Do something while you're thinking
Action feeds thought

Don't waste your day in hate or fear.
Spend each precious moment enjoying or searching for the good in life.
Make it a habit.
Live now.

Being a coding dinosaur isn't as bad as I thought it would be. After 30 years of writing software I still get a real charge out of creating something from nothing.
It's a challenge to learn yet another way of twiddling bits, but it's worth the effort. And you get to work with creative, supportive people who love their job. It's a wonderful life all in all.

  1. A man is someone who takes care of his family. A man is someone who holds a job and gives his best at that job day in and day out.
A man is someone who struggles to believe in himself and his abilities. He knows nothing is easy.
A man is someone who wants to be better but still wants to be a kid again. He knows when to be a be a man and when to be a kid.
